So you’re a writer, huh? Why don’t you tell me your name and your favorite genre? Do you write fanfiction, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, romance, poetry, ect.?

Yes, I am a writer. Otherwise I probably wouldn't be filling in this meme. XD My online name is Brammie, short for Bramblestar. I write all genres, though I prefer writing fiction to everything else. (Although I've pretty much stopped with fan-fiction, except for requests.)


Well, well! Very interesting! So how about telling me what interested you in writing in the first place?

That's a funny question, because I don't really know the answer. Ever since I could hold a pen and write the alphabet I've been writing, but Warriors was what really got me thinking seriously. I started writing a spinoff series in fifth grade, (Called "Hunters," it was so bad I cringe to read it now XD), and it was the first thing I actually finished. It felt great! Then I began wondering if I could do it again, with my own stories, and maybe get them published...


Okay, great! Would you mind giving me a small sample of your writing? A paragraph would be lovely, if you don’t mind. Or, if you’re a poet, how about a short poem?

Well, I don't feel in the mood for a poem, so here's a little from The Betrayal:Lost, Chapter One (unedited):

“Don’t worry. Just wait right here, and I’ll go get help,” I promised. From who, I had no idea. “Just hang on!”

“No!” The strangled cry choked off into a gurgle of more blood. This time, I didn’t flinch back as the sticky liquid flew at me. Nothing had moved; I sensed the cat was too weak for that.

“Don’t… go…” The words were distorted to the point where I almost couldn’t understand. A weak cough accompanied them.

I stood, torn, wanting to run for help but still wanting to stay and comfort this strange cat. After a brief struggle with myself, I stepped closer to the pile of fur and tried to find an unharmed spot to sink in my teeth. The only spot I could find was the cat’s neck, and even that was coated with dry blood.

I grasped the cat’s scruff between my teeth, ignoring the gurgling gasp of pain that sounded from nearby. Slowly, I began backing up, toward the alley entrance, as painlessly as I could. It must have worked, because the cat went limp in my jaws and I reached the outside of the alley with no trouble.

I gently let go of the cat’s scruff and tried to get a good look at it in the dim light of the sunset. It looked worse than I’d thought; its matted fur was completely coated in blood, and I could hardly make out any of its other features. But I could tell one thing: it was a male. Revulsion swept over me automatically; I’d always been taught not to trust tomcats. Swallowing the bile rising in my throat, I gasped, “I’ll just go off a ways- by myself- and find someone who can help…”

A low whimper sounded in the tom’s throat, but he didn’t move from where I’d dropped him. It suddenly struck me that if I left now, there would be nobody to come back to.

He would die without me.


Hmm…so that’s your writing style? Not too shabby! Now, talk to me about your goals as far as writing goes. Would you like to do this as a living, or is it just a hobby for you?

Huh. I know that I have SO MANY stories in me, so yes, of course I want to tell the world all of them, which I guess could be a career on its own, but I want to do other things too. I'd like to learn computer animation and maybe work on a few movies, and if I get the chance I'd love to sing too. So I guess writing's kind of something I'm planning on doing for awhile, but no, it's not my whole life.


Let’s talk about a favorite piece of your work on DeviantART. What do you consider your best work and why? Do other people here on DA agree with you?

Are we talking writing here? I hope so, (although picture-wise my favorite is still "Thief in the Night"). Um, I guess my favorite piece is LeafxCrow: Why it could work, because it took me so long to put together, it was RIGHT (yay Erin! ), and because it's the only complete one out there, thanks to you guys. I think everyone agrees, since it's my most popular deviation, with 2,733 views and 87 faves.


What do you like the most about your writing? What do you like the least? Why?

MY writing? Well, I like writing IN GENERAL because it's like a way to let people into your head for awhile, so they can see what you see as you tell your story- everything in a story comes from YOU, which is why every author has a different writing style. All the characters are just little pieces of YOU, and you draw from your OWN experiences to make your writing unique.

I don't really think there's anything special about my writing... It's just me pouring my emotions onto the paper, (I generally only write when I'm upset or it's 6:00 XD), and I know I have a LOT to learn and a LOT of room for improvement. I'm not the best in the world, so I won't tell you I am.


Last question! Writers tend to try and emulate the style of the writers that they like. Is there another writer on DA that you enjoy reading? What is it about them that you like so much?

I don't think writers emulate their heros' style very much, because otherwise why bother? You're not writing as yourself, so what's the point? ...Anyway! XD I don't really read DA stuff much anymore- there's just too much junk to sift through- but I really like Stephanie Meyer's style, because it strikes me as more sophisticated than the Erins', although it's not perfect.
